Data

This is the cover page to the presentation of raw data. For each data type we detail the sources from which we derived it, present the data as we have extracted it, give some characterisation of the data, and provide a forum for comments, questions and criticisms.

Electricity Market Data:

• Electricity Price

Renewable resource data:

• Wind - BoM wind speed and direction [BtCC]

Electricity infrastructure data:

The electricity data comes from AEMO, the wind data has been provided by BoM. The AEMO data has some issues, but is mostly fairly clean - issues more with what the data means than the data itself. The BoM data is the converse, sometimes having significant missing data.

In this work:

• All times are AEST. AEMO already is; BoM data converted (e.g. from ACST for SA);
• Date format to be yyyymmdd throughout;
• Missing values are denoted as NaN (Not a Number);
• Formats are basic text, and in particular what we call OzEA flatfile format for the many-datum-per-day cases;
• Comments, or commented out lines, have '%' as the first character on the line;
• Electricity mostly in MW (i.e. average instantaneous power over the time interval), but also using MWh (i.e. total energy) for some things. [MW == MWe unless otherwise stated];
• As much as possible data lines will start with the ^date, and then have following all data associated with that day (i.e. OzEA format).

Scripts and codes

Will include here as needed. Mostly I use Perl for munging data, and matlab for plotting etc. Here is the Perl script used to extract data slices from the raw data files.
